  • How do I apply for a professional permit?
    By securing employment with either a multinational or local company under a contract with a minimum monthly basic salary.

 

  • Is it necessary for me to travel to Mauritius to initiate the application process?
    There is no need for you to travel to Mauritius for the application of the permit as your employer can start with the application process online.

 

  • When am I required to submit the return of income?
    As a professional employed in Mauritius, it is mandatory to annually report your income to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and settle any applicable taxes. If you are on secondment and have already declared your income in your home country, you must provide a tax certificate as evidence of your tax return during the renewal process of your Occupation Permit, subject to the country holding a double taxation agreement.
  • How do I apply for a Retired Non-Citizen permit?
    A retired non-citizen is required to provide a certified bank statement from their country of origin or residence, demonstrating either:
    • A minimum balance of USD 18,000; or
    • A guaranteed minimum monthly income of USD 1,500.

  • Do I need to travel to Mauritius to start the application process?
    The application can be done online without the need to travel to Mauritius.

  • Am I permitted to purchase residential property in Mauritius under a retired non- citizen permit?
    Under a retired non-citizen permit, you have the option to acquire residential property developed under the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES), Property Development Scheme (PDS), or Smart City Scheme (SCS).

    Additionally, you may purchase an apartment located within a building comprising at least ground plus two floors.

    Furthermore, non-citizens holding a residence permit under IRS/RES/PDS are exempt from the necessity to possess an Occupation or Work Permit for investment and employment activities in Mauritius.

  • After the 10 years what happens?
    You have the option to renew your Residence Permit for another 10-year period upon its expiration.

  • What is the minimum investment to qualify for an investor permit?
    A minimum of USD 50,000 as investment in a business activity.

  • Do I need to travel to Mauritius to start the application process?
    The application can be done online without the need to travel to Mauritius.

  • To which bank account should I transfer the required funds?
    After receiving the approval in principle email, you will be allowed to open a bank account in Mauritius. The initial transfer of USD 50,000, or its equivalent in freely convertible currency, should be deposited into the company’s bank account through which the application will be processed.

    The fund transfer is mandatory for the issuance of the Occupation Permit.

  • What is the minimum investment to qualify for a Self-Employed Permit?
    • A minimum of USD 35,000 as investment in a professional activity.
